Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below some frequently asked questions that might be of use to you.

Q: FOR HOW LONG HAS DEJORIA BEEN SELLING DIAMOND JEWELRY?
A: DeJoria Diamonds was originally formed in 2003 and operates from our HQ in Los Angeles, California. We specialize in real, natural and non-conflict diamonds, diamond engagement rings and fine diamond jewelry. Providing a unique and highly personalized service, we work closely with our clients to provide them with their perfect item of diamond jewelry.

Q: WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE DEJORIA TO PURCHASE DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RINGS AND DIAMOND JEWELRY AGAINST OTHERS?
A: We realize that there is a lot of competition when it comes to diamonds and diamond jewelry. Therefore, we offer unique product ranges, fantastic quality, great prices and - equally as important - exceptional customer service. We aim to work WITH our clients to provide a stunning piece of diamond jewelry, not just try to sell you a piece of diamond jewelry that we have in stock. We are a team of professional jewelers, at your disposal.

Q: WHAT MAKES YOUR PRODUCT RANGES UNIQUE?
A: All our ring and jewelry mountings are handmade in the UK by our team of master craftsmen and then set with diamonds in the US. Therefore, not only is your jewelry handmade uniquely for you, but you also receive the benefits of the UK hallmarking process and nickel-free metals.

Q: WHAT IS HALLMARKING?
A: The hallmarking process is unique to the UK. A hallmark is a tiny stamp embossed onto precious metal jewelry which authenticates the purity of the metal. Having been established in the UK some 700 years ago, the hallmarking process now represents one of the earliest ever forms of consumer protection. Therefore, as a customer, you can have complete confidence in the quality of your precious metal jewelry.

Q: EXACTLY WHAT DOES "NICKEL-FREE" MEAN?
A: Precious metal mountings made in the UK are subject to the European Nickel Directive which forbids the presence of the nickel alloy in the finished metal item. Nickel may cause a minor allergic irritation for the majority of individuals, but some people experience a severe significant reaction. As a DeJoria customer, therefore, you can be sure that your beautiful piece of fine jewelry is nickel-free.

Q: WHAT IS THE ETHICAL POLICY OF DEJORIA DIAMONDS?
A: John Paul DeJoria has a very ethical stance when it comes to business, and has personally plowed back huge amounts of money to good causes. With DeJoria, a % of the value of each sale from our non-conflict diamond jewelry will be invested back into the countries where the diamonds are mined, into projects related to health, education, injustice and the environment.

Q: WHAT ARE 'CONFLICT DIAMONDS'?
A: Conflict diamonds - otherwise known as 'blood diamonds' are diamonds which have been mined in areas of conflict, predominantly in African nations, and the funds generated from mining diamonds have been used to fund such conflicts. A tiny percentage of the worlds diamonds are conflict diamonds but the diamond industry's stance is that even one conflict diamond traded is one too many. The Kimberley Process, which has been in operation since 2003, is the diamond industry's self regulation which aims to combat this problem. DeJoria strives to assure that we only sell non-conflict diamonds and urges all jewelers to adopt this stance.

Q: I HAVE BEEN READING RECENTLY ABOUT 'SYNTHETIC' DIAMONDS - WHAT ARE THESE?
A: Real diamonds have all been created naturally through intense levels of heat and pressure deep within the ground. All natural diamonds are thought to be between 70 million and 3 billion years old. They are mined, cut and polished by highly skilled craftsmen and, beyond that, are not tampered with. Synthetic, or 'cultured' diamonds are laboratory-created imitations. In fact, all synthetic or cultured diamonds must legally be declared as such. DeJoria assures, of course, that all the diamonds used in our fine diamond jewelry are real and natural.

Q: DOES DEJORIA HAVE A RETAIL OUTLET?
A: No. This allows us to provide our clients with excellent value as we simply don't have the high overheads that a traditional jewelry store will have.

Q: CAN I SEE AN ITEM PRIOR TO PURCHASE?
A: DeJoria operates exclusively online. As a result, it is not possible to see our non-conflict diamond jewelry items prior to purchase. We do, however, provide full views and even video clips of the diamond jewelry we sell on the website, providing you with the complete picture of how your diamond jewelry will look in reality.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW THE DIAMOND IS WHAT YOU SAY IT IS?
A: It is, of course, important for you to have complete confidence that your non-conflict diamond jewelry is indeed what we say it is. We do this by sending you the original diamond grading report with your diamond, and also an independent jewelry appraisal with our diamond engagement rings. This documentation provides you with 100% peace of mind in the quality and integrity of your purchase.

Q: I ASSUME THE LARGER THE DIAMOND, THE MORE EXPENSIVE IT WILL BE?
A: Not necessarily. If you are comparing two diamonds of the same quality, then yes, it is fair to assume that the larger one will be more expensive. However, if you are comparing a large poor quality stone against a smaller better quality diamond, then the likelihood is that the smaller diamond will be more expensive. Remember, it is not all about size - quality is, of course, important.

Q: IS IT IMPORTANT TO GET A DIAMOND GRADING REPORT WITH MY DIAMOND?
A: As with any high value purchase, it is important to get as much supporting documentation as possible - and diamonds are no different. A diamond grading report is your independent assessment of the characteristics of your diamond, related to the international diamond grading system of the 4Cs of Cut, Carat size, Color and Clarity.

Q: WHICH DIAMOND LABORATORY DOES DEJORIA USE?
A: We use GIA, AGS, IGI & EGL USA diamonds as these are the world's leading gemological laboratories.

Q: IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE THE DIAMOND GRADING REPORT NUMBER 'ENGRAVED' ONTO THE DIAMOND?
A: The GIA actually microscopically laser inscribe all diamonds of less than 1.00ct with the associated GIA diamond grading report number.

Q: WHICH INDEPENDENT BODY CARRIES OUT DEJORIA'S JEWELRY APPRAISALS?
A: We use 'Gemological Laboratory Services' in Los Angeles to carry out our independent jewelry appraisals. This is a completely independent appraisal house.

Q: WHAT INFORMATION DOES THE INDEPENDENT JEWELRY APPRAISAL DOCUMENT CONTAIN?
A: The jewelry appraisal contains information such as a description of the item and an estimated retail replacement value. It comes presented to you in the form of a dossier, housed in a laminated plastic wallet.

Q: HOW DO I ESTABLISH THE DIAMOND RING SIZE I REQUIRE?
A: Whilst trying to do this in secret may sound like a daunting task, it is probably more straightforward that you think. Our ring size help section will assist you.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I ORDER A DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING AND I GET THE SIZE WRONG?
A: We offer a complimentary ring re-sizing service if you get the size wrong. We realize that it is not always easy to establish her ring size in secret, so this facility is available to you if required.

Q: HOW DO I MAKE PAYMENT?
A: Payment for all our items is made over the phone with our customer service team, as part of our personal service to you. You can make payment using all major credit cards, wire transfer or cashiers check.

Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM ORDER TO SHIPPING?
A: This really depends upon the item of diamond jewelry you order. We use both FedEx and UPS for shipping our diamond jewelry to you. All of our stunning items of diamond jewelry are handmade to order to provide uniqueness for you, so a standard lead time is 21 days.

Q: DO YOU REALLY TALK TO EVERY CUSTOMER IN PERSON?
A: We like to, yes. We believe that personal contact is very important when making a high value purchase. Each member of our customer service team is a diamond expert and so you can benefit from their knowledge. Of course, if you just prefer to deal with us by email, we understand!
